AMD Unleashes New Processor

In the computer world, there are two manufacturers of the largest processors, namely Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Each has a distinct advantage. As far as I know, Intel is more famous compared to AMD, because Intel made the promotion of large-scale through the medium of TV and magazine. While I have never seen AMD adverts on TV, even if it's in magazines, it's only in a magazine about the IT/computer.

Now, AMD has released the latest processor, code-named Bulldozer. This processor is a CPU core based on AMD Family 15h microarchitecture, the successor to the family 10 h (K10) which its microarchitecture was made for M-SPACE, which in essence is specifically intended for computing products in 10-watt TDP to 125 watts. Bulldozer is designed from scratch again, not a development of earlier processors. AMD claims that its product has a dramatic efficiency improvement of the performance-per-watt in the High Performance Computing (HPC). With the core processor for desktop computers Bulldozer is released on October 12, 2011.

Bulldozer Core supports most of the instruction set implemented by Intel processors that are available at the time of introduction (including SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, CLMUL, and AVX) instruction set as well as future proposed by AMD (XOP and FMA4).

Bulldozer is the first major redesign of the architecture of AMD processors since 2003, when the company launched its Athlon 64/Opteron (K8) processors, and also has two 128-bit FPU FMA-able which can be combined into one 256-bit FPU. This design is accompanied by two integers cores each with 4 pipe (phase fetch / decode together). Bulldozers will also introduce a shared L2 cache on the new architecture. AMD calls this design with the name "module Bulldozer". A 16-core processor design that will feature eight of this module, but the operating system will recognize each module as two physical cores.
